This is how Apple cares about the environment. The company shared its achievements in the use of recycled materials

Apple has long repeated that it takes care of the environment in various ways. One way is to use recycled materials.

According to a recent report from Cupertino, 18% of all materials used in Apple products in 2021 were recycled, the highest for the company. In addition, this means that the figure for the year increased by 50%, since in 2020 only 12% of all materials in Apple products were recycled.

Apple also said that eight models from its range at once included at least 20% recycled materials. For the first time, the company used certified recycled gold (for circuit boards and camera modules of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max). The recycling of cobalt, tungsten and rare earths has more than doubled.

Apple also boasted that it almost completely got rid of plastic in its packaging. At the end of last year, plastic accounted for only 4% of all packaging materials, and the iPhone completely switched to plastic-free packaging.

Separately, Apple announced that its suppliers have more than doubled their use of clean energy over the past year. In 2021, renewable energy projects saved 13.9 million metric tons of carbon emissions, the equivalent of taking 3 million cars off the road in one year.
