Bank cannot refuse to exchange mutilated notes
According to the rules of RBI, you can easily exchange mutilated notes from any bank. No bank can refuse to exchange torn notes. By doing this, RBI can take action on the bank. But, let us tell you that the worse the condition of the note, the more its value falls. For the convenience of customers, the Central Reserve Bank has given some guidelines. So let us tell you about those guidelines-

These things should be clearly visible in mutilated notes
Whenever a customer takes a mutilated note to the bank, according to the rules of RBI, the bank first checks the security features like Gandhiji’s picture, RBI governor’s sign, watermark and serial number. After this, if all these things are safe, then the bank cannot refuse to exchange the note. If you have low denomination notes like 5, 10, 20 and up to 50 rupees and the things mentioned above are visible in it and a part of it is also safe, then you can easily change this note from the bank.

On the other hand, if you have more than 20 torn notes and their value is more than Rs 5000, then you will have to pay a fee to exchange those notes. After this the bank will exchange the note. At the same time, while exchanging notes for more than 50, two pieces of this note are up to 40 percent of the normal note, even then your notes will be easily exchanged.

Torn notes can also be changed into pieces
Let us tell you that many times the notes are torn in such a way that they get divided into pieces. In this case also the note can be changed. But, for this you have to send the pieces of this note to the nearest branch of the Reserve Bank. Along with this, you will also have to send by writing the bank account number, IFSC code and value of the note.
