The United States explained what combat experience the Russian military received in Syria

Since 2015, Russian aircraft are reported to have flown over 40,000 sorties into Syria. Many pilots flew more than a hundred sorties, sometimes even more than 400. However, most of the sorties were not accompanied by a collision with the enemy.

The fact is that many of the missions were of a reconnaissance nature. The American authors noted that “sorties were not all that dangerous.” They write that most of the combat experience was gained by pilots in the form of skills in finding targets and striking them, often with unguided bombs.

The missions of ground forces officers to Syria turned out to be more effective. But the greatest combat experience was gained by Russian special operations officers.
