The production of Elbrus processors will be transferred from Taiwan to Russia

The MCST company, known as the domestic developer of the Elbrus processors, is negotiating with the Russian company Micron to transfer production from Taiwan to a plant in Zelenograd.

This was reported by the publication RBC, citing its own source and Deputy General Director for Marketing MCST Konstantin Trushkin.

Until recently, the production of Elbrus processors was outsourced to the Taiwanese TSMC. However, due to US sanctions, TSMC stopped cooperation with Russian companies, including MCST.

First of all, now the consumers of Elbrus processors are the Russian law enforcement and government agencies. In April, Trushkin told a meeting of the Domestic Software Association of Software Developers (ARPP) that MCST is considering two options under the sanctions: transfer processor assembly to Mikron or create a separate Elbrus company that will not be related to MCST .

Now, according to Trushkin, the MCST is considering switching to Russian production. He told reporters:

We see that domestic factories can create worthy processors with sovereign Russian technologies for critical information infrastructure, information security and other markets. To achieve sufficient practical performance, we see a large reserve in reworking the source code and optimizing software for the Elbrus architecture.
