Bajaj CNG Bike: Bajaj’s CNG motorcycle will be the first CNG bike in India, challenging popular ICE commuter bikes like the Splendor Plus and Honda Shine 100.

Bajaj CNG Bike Launch Soon: CNG has been used in cars in the country since 2010, but it is still rarely used in two-wheelers. Although RTO-approved CNG conversion kits have been observed in some scooters, no company has yet manufactured any motorcycle with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Now, Bajaj is preparing to launch India’s first CNG motorcycle soon.

What to Expect:

Better Mileage: Bajaj currently sells the Platina and CT motorcycles in the entry-level commuter bike segment. Among these, the Platina offers higher mileage, which, according to ARAI, is up to 70 kmpl. It is expected that the mileage of the upcoming CNG bike will be even higher than this, possibly making it the highest mileage bike in its category.

Utilization of Existing Engine: Bajaj can utilize the existing 110cc engine in its new CNG bike, which is also available in the Platina 110cc and CT110X. This engine delivers 8.6PS power and 9.81Nm torque on petrol and comes with a 6-speed gearbox. Additionally, a 125cc engine from the CT125X could be considered for use in the Bajaj CNG bike. Since CNG provides less power than petrol, opting for a larger engine (125cc) for better performance could be considered. Regardless of the engine choice, some modifications may be necessary.

Bi-fuel Setup: It is expected that Bajaj’s upcoming CNG bike will feature a bi-fuel setup. A switch may be provided to shift between CNG and petrol fuel modes. The CNG tank could be located under the seat, while the petrol tank would remain in its usual position.

Price and Launch:

Although Bajaj’s CNG motorcycle may be economical to run, media reports suggest that its price may exceed that of the current Platina 110cc. Bajaj could potentially launch this CNG bike at a starting price of around Rs 80,000. It is anticipated to be launched by June 2024.
