The Perfect Alarm Ringtone Scientifically Determined Both tempo and memorability are important

Research has shown that certain alarm sounds can actually increase our alertness and alertness after waking up.

Scientists know that in some cases, drowsiness after waking up can be dangerous after a few hours by reducing our effectiveness in making important decisions. There is even a name for this phenomenon – sleep inertia, a temporary decrease in performance that occurs upon awakening.

The authors of Science Alert reviewed the research on the alarm melody and came up with three basic rules for it:
  • the melody should be such that it is easy for her to sing along;
  • it has a dominant frequency of about 500 Hz;
  • it’s not too fast or too slow (ideally 100-120 bpm).

Also, keep in mind that the alarm clock should sound louder for younger people (or for those who sleep especially soundly).
