Modern instant messengers allow you to send various files to your interlocutor, but their volume is often limited. According to the WABetainfo resource, WhatsApp users will soon get rid of this problem – the limit on the “weight” of attachments for them will be increased immediately by 20 times.
According to the source, some users of the beta version of the mobile application on iOS and Android platforms have already received the ability to send files up to 2 GB. In the current release build of the messenger, this value is limited to 100 MB. The innovation is already available in Argentina, and in the future the geography of testing can be expanded.
The degree of compression of “heavy” multimedia materials transmitted via WhatsApp chat is not reported. In the future, this feature will allow messenger users to “get rid” of third-party services for publishing video files. Already, the cameras of many modern smartphones can record video in high resolution, and therefore even a short video often takes up more than 100 MB in the internal memory of the gadget.
Another test function of the application, according to insiders, was the ability to preview documents sent via WhatsApp. Recently, the test build of the messenger for Android also received the ability to pause and resume the recording of voice messages. The release date of these functions has not yet been announced by the developers.
