The first robotic parcel sorting system, unique for Europe, has been launched in Russia

A new sorting center for express delivery service SDEK has opened in St. Petersburg. According to the press service, the center uses the first in Russia and unique throughout Europe complex of a robotic system for sorting parcels and cargo.
The center was started by PNK group in the southern part of St. Petersburg in February 2021. By November 4, full operation of the site became possible.
The design of the robotic sorting system was carried out by NISSA Engineering.
The system uses 95 Geek+ S20C sorting robots integrated with the CDEK WMS warehouse management system. Theoretically, it provides processing of more than 4000 items per hour and up to 144 directions of simultaneous sorting. According to the results of the stress test, the robots were able to process about 3.5 thousand parcels per hour.
Nadezhda Taits, director of the northwestern branch of CDEK, said:
Robots are the core of the new system that we will be expanding. Freedom of creativity and constant development are important for CDEK to meet the market. We are not satisfied with the use of a standard mechanical system that is difficult to adapt, which takes six months to install, and then another year to configure. Therefore, we chose NISSA Engineering.
