Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said that the first regiment armed with Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles is planned to be formed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in the fall.
“We plan to do this no later than this autumn – to form the first regiment from the serial missiles delivered by our enterprises, which will be put into service in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in Uzhur”Rogozin said.
According to the head of Roskosmos, “Sarmat” will use the same mines as “Voevoda”. “The land mines are the same as those of the Voyevoda, they do not need to be redone. A certain refinement of only electronics is underway “he said, emphasizing that it would save money and time to adopt the system.
The first launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile “Sarmat” was carried out from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region on Wednesday. Training warheads arrived in a given area at the Kura training ground in Kamchatka. At the moment, the Uzhur missile formation in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is preparing the head missile regiment for re-equipment with a new missile system.
The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was developed at the State Rocket Center named after V.P. Makeev (part of Roscosmos), the manufacturer is the Krasmash plant (also part of Roscosmos). According to experts, the rocket is capable of delivering a multiple reentry vehicle weighing up to 10 tons to anywhere in the world, both through the North and South Poles.
