The capacitor on the motherboard is installed incorrectly, which may cause a fire. Asus recalls 10,000 top ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards in the US

Asus in partnership with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of 10,000 top ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards. Recall campaigns by component manufacturers are rare, especially when it comes to a decent amount of top-end devices, as in this case.

Asus indicates that all defective motherboards were manufactured in 2021 and shipped only to the US market. However, the supply to the US market does not mean at all that they are used only in the USA. The recalled motherboards are marked with the code 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 (this is the batch number located near the 24-pin power connector and also on the packaging), and their serial number begins with the letter code MA, MB, or MC.

Asus did not hide the reason for the recall. It turns out that the whole thing is in an incorrectly installed capacitor, which can cause a short circuit, overheating or melting, and in the worst case, lead to a fire. The CPSC noted that there were 10 cases of melted motherboards, but no one was injured. And yet, the “happy” owners of defective ROG Maximus Z690 Hero should not hesitate to replace it.
