The Tesla Model Y crossover received the highest safety score of any vehicle tested in Euro NCAP’s latest and toughest test. The Tesla Model Y scored 92%, while its closest competitors scored 89%.
As a result, Model Y received:

- 97% in the adult occupant protection system

- 98% in security system

- 87% for the safety of child passengers

- 82% for pedestrian safety
The Euro NCAP test checks frontal impact, side impact and rear impact as well as child safety features and how severe injuries to pedestrians and cyclists can be. Euro NCAP is also testing assisted safety features such as lane keeping, speeding assistance, driver condition monitoring, as well as collision avoidance systems such as autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning.

Factors that contributed to the high score include the one-piece, one-piece backplate manufacturing technology and a reinforced battery pack that “provides tremendous strength to help maintain the integrity of the bay,” Tesla said. The company also points to mid-cabin airbags that deploy between the front seats to help passengers avoid injury.
“The camera-only Tesla Model Y system does an excellent job of avoiding collisions with other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians,” Euro NCAP said in a statement.
