Tesla launches Tesla Electric program to sell electricity back to the grid in Texas

Tesla first launched a “virtual power plant” (VPP) feature in California, offering powerwall home battery owners to sell electricity back to the grid during peak hours to mitigate power outages. Shortly thereafter, the company entered the Australian and Japanese markets, and now it has come to Texas, but with an innovation.
Yesterday, the company announced Tesla Electric, a program that turns Tesla into a retail electricity supplier and allows Powerwall owners to sell some of their excess electricity back to the grid, with Tesla acting as an intermediary.
This product is available by invitation only to selected customers. If users have one of Tesla’s large batteries and a home in a suitable part of Texas, then they “will see a banner on the Powerwall home page in the Tesla app.”
With Tesla Electric, your Powerwall automatically decides when to charge and when to sell electricity to the grid. Together with other Tesla Electric members, you can maximize the value of your solar power by using Powerwall storage to add more renewable electricity to the grid. You can also meet your own sustainability goals by importing electricity from the grid as Tesla Electric offsets your energy consumption from 100% renewable sources.
