Tata Motors wins contract for supply of 5450 electric buses by a margin of ‘Rs 10’

Tata Motors has won the contract for the supply of 5,450 electric buses in 5 major cities of the country. Tata Motors has made the lowest bid. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) had floated the tender under the FAME II scheme. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) opened the tenders, after which the name of Tata Motors emerged. Under this scheme, electric buses will be supplied in Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Surat. Olectra Group’s AV Trans and Volvo Group and VECV, a joint venture of Eicher Motors, also participated in the tender including Switch Mobility. Tata Motors was the lowest bidder among all the five categories of the tender. Notably, the difference between L1 and L2 bidders in all categories was Rs 10.

The bidding was done in 5 categories under the FAME II scheme. These included low-floor AC and non-AC electric-buses of 12 meters, non-AC buses with standard floors of 12 meters and AC and non-AC buses with standard floors of 9 meters. according to informationThe bid by Tata Motors was at the same level as the operational cost of diesel buses.

  • Bid for 12 meter low-floor AC bus – Rs 47.49 per kilometer
  • Price of 12 meter low floor non AC bus – Rs 43.49 per kilometer
  • Bid for 12 meter standard floor AC bus – Rs 44.99 per kilometer
  • Bid for 9 meter standard floor AC bus – Rs 41.45 per kilometer
  • Bid for 9 meter non-AC bus – Rs 39.21 per kilometer

What were the prices of other companies?

Tata Motors had put in a bid of Rs 44.99 per km for the 12 meter standard floor AC electric bus, as against Rs 53.99 per km by Switch Mobility. At the same time, AV Trans had bid Rs 54.27 per km for 9 meter AC bus and Rs 53.12 per km for non AC bus. For these buses, a subsidy of about Rs 361 crore will be given by the government under FAME II.

It is worth noting that a total of 25,000 jobs will be created under this tender, out of which 10% will be reserved for women. At the same time, the contract that Tata Motors has won is for 12 years. During this, a bus will complete the journey of 10 lakh km. In this way, electric buses of Tata Motors will travel 4.71 billion kilometers in 12 years.
