The trend of electric cars is gradually increasing in India. With manufacturing of EVs on a large scale, the cost can come down even further. In terms of sales, electric car sales stood at 3,419 units in September 2022, showing a year-on-year growth of 172% and 5.62% month-on-month.
Tata continues to be the number 1 passenger vehicle brand in India. With the launch of the Tiago EV, Tata Motors has expanded its 4W EV portfolio. With 82.80% market share, Tata Motors is dealing in the 4W EV revolution in the country. Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV together sold 2,831 units and registered annual growth of 217.02 per cent and monthly growth of 2.39 per cent. These gains are higher than the 893 units sold in September 2021 and 2,765 units sold in August 2022.
Volume gain for Tata was 1,938 units year-on-year and 66 units month-on-month growth. With the start of Tiago EV deliveries in 2023, Tata’s 4W EV sales could take a whole new level. The MG ZS EV is at number two. It sold 280 units last month, up from 327 units in the previous month and registered a decline of 14.37 per cent and a month-on-month decline of 11.39 per cent. The market share of MG ZS EV is 9.76 percent.
The special thing is that the sales of Mahindra eVerito are going strong with 112 units sold last month, 19 units were sold in the same time last year and 17 units were sold a month ago. eVerito posted 489.47 percent year-on-year growth and 558.82 percent month-on-month growth. The market share increased from 0.53 percent to 3.28 percent in August 2022.
The Hyundai Kona EV is at the fourth position with 74 units sold in September 2022, compared to only 7 units sold last year and 73 units sold last month. The Kona EV clocked 957.14% year-on-year growth of 67 units and 1.37 percent month-on-month growth. If the BYD e6 is sold as PV and CV, the sales growth is visible. Last year BYD e6 could not sell 1 unit and in August 2022 managed to sell 45 units. However, sales last month stood at 63 units, which is a growth of 40 percent month-on-month.
The BMW EV along with the iX and i4 managed to sell 27 units and saw a growth of 8% over the 25 units sold a month ago. Porsche Taycan sold 13 units and registered a month-on-month growth of 85.71% as against 7 units sold in August 2022. Audi e-tron sold 10 units. With sales of 6 units in September 2021 and 14 units in August 2022, Audi posted a decline of 66.67 per cent year-on-year and 28.57 per cent on a month-on-month basis.
