The Department of Telecommunications has already taken action to stop banking fraud.

To stop banking fraud, the government has conducted a ‘surgical strike’, in which more than 1.4 lakh fake mobile numbers have been blocked. This step has been taken with the joint efforts of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Indian Banking Association (IBA).

According to the report, these fake numbers were being used for banking fraud, financial scams and other illegal activities. By blocking these numbers, the government has tried to curb these criminals.

This action of the government is important amidst increasing cases of banking fraud. In the last few years, cases of banking fraud have increased significantly. In 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had reported that there has been a 12% increase in banking fraud cases.

DoT blocked these numbers

  • Wrong information was given during registration.
  • KYC (Know Your Customer) documents not submitted.
  • Multiple SIM cards issued at the same address.
  • Involved in suspicious activities.

This action will be a big relief for banking customers. Now, customers will have less to worry about becoming victims of banking fraud. However, it is important to note that this is only a starting step. To completely stop banking fraud, the government will have to take many more steps.

The government should also consider the following measures

  • Strengthening the banking system.
  • To make customers aware.
  • Taking strict action against fraudsters.
  • Through these measures, the government will be successful in preventing banking frauds and keeping banking customers safe.

DoT has taken action earlier also

The Department of Telecommunications has already taken action to stop banking fraud, in which 3.5 lakh SIMs were blocked. Apart from this, many accused were also arrested, who used to commit banking fraud through phone.
