Such a huge demand for this electric scooter! The company had to open a new plant

Electric scooter maker Ather Energy on Wednesday started production at its second manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. This plant of the company is spread over an area of 3 lakh square kilometers. The annual production capacity of this plant is 4.20 lakh units. The company decided to start production at the new plant to meet the growing demand for its electric scooters. The company has invested Rs 320 crore in the new plant.

Ather’s new vehicle plant will manufacture electric scooters as well as batteries. Five assembly lines have been set up for batteries while two for vehicles. According to Ather, the plant is built with state-of-the-art technology and is inspired by the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign. The company’s medicine is that this plant will give a boost to the local production of e-vehicles in India.

Ather Energy co-founder Swapnil Jain said that the company is trying to increase sales by 26-30 thousand units by the end of the current financial year. The present production capacity of this plant is 4.20 lakh units per annum, but at present the company is utilizing only 50 per cent of the capacity. The company is manufacturing an average of 550 units of electric scooters every day.

While the Ather scooter plant earlier had around 350 employees, with the opening of the new plant, the number of employees has gone up to 1,100. Jain believes that with the increase in production, the waiting period for new scooters will come down from 4-6 months to 15 days. The company is trying to deliver on the same day of booking in many cities. With the opening of the new plant, the company can now manufacture around 1,200 scooters every day. It takes 40 seconds to roll an electric scooter off the production line.
