A start-up of the regional operator of the Skolkovo Foundation, which develops smart locks, is asking to deprive four foreign companies of trademark rights in Russia at once: motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson, Canon, record label Elektra Entertainment Group and financial company KEM Finance.
Thus, Morgan Secret LLC asks the intellectual property court to terminate the protection of the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide trademark (motorcycle model), and KEM Finance – the SECRET trademark. The lawsuit against the Elektra label lists the same trademark number that Harley-Davidson owns. However, in Russia, this label now has only one trademark – Elektra, which is probably the subject of a dispute.
The company believes that all these trademarks are no longer used in Russia in the field of information technology or equipment for signaling, recording and reproducing sound and images, etc. These marks may prevent the developer of locks from registering their similarly named trademarks with Rospatent . At the same time, Morgan Secret itself has currently registered only one trademark – KEHON. The rights to it will be valid until April 19, 2031.
Morgan Secret is developing electronic and biometric locks. The company was registered by Ferroni, the largest metal door manufacturer in Russia, in February 2020 as a startup in the Skolkovo Foundation and is a resident of the Zhigulevskaya Dolina regional technopark.
