According to SpaceNews, the American company SpaceX broke last year’s record for the number of launches of its own heavy rocket Falcon 9.
SpaceX this week sent 48 more satellites into orbit for its Starlink internet system, as well as two BlackSky remote sensing spacecraft as part of a mission that broke the record for Falcon 9 launches in a calendar year.
All satellites have successfully separated from the Falcon 9 in low Earth orbit, according to SpaceX. After completing its mission, the Falcon 9’s reusable first stage successfully completed its ninth landing, landing on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
This was SpaceX’s 27th successful Falcon 9 launch mission this year. The previous record, which included 26 successful missions, was recorded by the company last year. Many of the Falcon 9 missions in 2021 carried payloads for Starlink: SpaceX has already launched more than 1,890 satellites for the network that provides global coverage.
In November, Elon Musk announced that the orbital flight of the world’s largest Starship rocket should take place in January 2022. This will happen if SpaceX manages to get permission to launch from the US Federal Aviation Administration.
