Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that they are also trying to reduce the import of fuel in the country. Their goal is to reduce emissions to zero in the future. For this, priority is being given to projects to make hydrogen from water. He said that ethanol is a better and cheaper alternative as a petroleum fuel. With its use, India’s dependence on foreign countries for fuel can be reduced.

Regarding the ban on coal-fired thermal power plants, Gadkari said that banning them at present is not good for the country’s economy. He said that the government is working to develop alternative energy sources. Solar and wind power projects are being worked on rapidly in many states of the country. He said that in future our dependence on coal for energy will definitely be reduced.

According to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, more than 13 lakh electric vehicles are registered in the country. Apart from this, a total of 2,826 public charging stations are operational in the country. Under Phase II of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, 2,877 public EV charging stations in 68 cities and 1,576 EV charging stations on 9 expressways and 16 highways have been approved.

The central government has set a target of zero carbon emissions by 2070. India is the world’s fourth largest emitter of carbon dioxide after China, the US and the European Union. India’s per capita carbon dioxide emissions in 2019 were 1.9 tonnes, compared to 15.5 tonnes in the US and 12.5 tonnes in Russia in the same year.
