Scientists: switching to electric cars will save people from chronic diseases

A new report from the American Lung Association says the widespread adoption of electric cars could have significant health benefits for many people. In particular, experts point to the benefits for children prone to respiratory diseases.

Obviously, the issue is related to exhaust emissions from conventional cars, which provoke chronic asthma attacks and bronchitis. However, a new research model suggests that if the number of cars fell by 2035, children would have 2.7 million fewer asthma attacks and be much less likely to suffer from bronchitis. Switching to electric vehicles alone would also prevent 2.67 million cases of upper respiratory tract symptoms and 1.87 million lower respiratory tract symptoms in children. In addition, infant mortality will decrease by 508 cases.

Scientists expect that by 2035, all new passenger cars sold in the United States will be electric, and by 2040, trucks will join their ranks. However, the transition may be delayed due to the higher cost; besides, cars with internal combustion engines are more functional, serve their owner longer and are more familiar to use.
