Scientists have simulated a black hole in the laboratory. She began to emit an analogue of Hawking radiation

Scientists from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands conducted an experiment that confirmed the existence of theoretically possible Hawking radiation emitted by a black hole. As it turned out, it not only exists, but also has some features.

For the experiment, the researchers created a model of a black hole in the lab. They involved a linear chain of atoms along which electrons move. There is a barrier on this chain – the very event horizon that is impassable for electrons. However, at the same time, the sensors recorded an increase in the temperature of the environment – at one time this was predicted by Hawking.

In other words, the BH model actually generates an analog of Hawking radiation. This confirms that black holes do emit certain particles and gradually evaporate. In the future, this discovery will allow scientists to better understand the principles of the universe.

The event horizon of a black hole is called a certain boundary, because of which even light cannot escape, not to mention matter. However, in 1974, physicist Stephen Hawking suggested that the event horizon interrupts quantum fluctuations (these are temporary changes in the energy level at a certain point in space), which leads to the appearance of specific radiation, similar to thermal radiation. Until recently, this radiation was considered theoretical, since it was too weak to be detected by instruments.
