Typically, participants chose blue and orange / red from all possible colors. In addition, as noted by the scientists, the majority of the subjects (75 percent) were confident that blue shades looked better on fair-skinned women, and orange / red – on darker ones.
This is the first study to scientifically prove that complexion is the basis for color selection. According to the authors, the participants made the above choice of colors due to the association in their minds of a warm climate (and warm colors) with a darker complexion, as well as the northern climate (and cold colors) with fair skin. However, further research is needed to verify this assumption.
