Zafar Ali, chairman of the Shahi Jama Masjid Management Committee, has been arrested in connection with the violence in November-2024 in Sambhal district of UP. At present, he has been sent to Moradabad Jail. Meanwhile, Zafar Ali’s family has alleged that his life is in danger and the jail officials are not letting him meet him. Zafar Ali’s family also alleged that he was not being given his medicines.
Let us tell you that the chairman of the Shahi Jama Masjid Management Committee was arrested on Sunday in connection with the violence. The violence took place during the survey conducted on the court’s order of the royal Jama Masjid, in which four people were killed and many others were injured. This Mughal mosque came to the center of a major dispute when a petition claimed that it is the site of an ancient Hindu temple.
Talking to the media on Tuesday, Zafar Ali’s elder brother Mohammad Tahir Ali claimed that family members have not been allowed to meet him in jail. He said, “He is being treated as if he is a dreaded criminal.” Tahir Ali further alleged that Zafar Ali’s life inside the jail was threatened.
Tahir Ali said- “She is 70 years old and is not getting medicines. The police is misbehaving and the administration has crossed all limits.” He also claimed that Ali had fully cooperated with the administration in the investigation of Sambhal violence, yet he is being punished.
He demanded Ali’s unconditional release, saying, “We have full faith in the court and hope to get justice.” Tahir Ali had earlier alleged that Ali was arrested before a three -member judicial commission to prevent his testimony. Ali accused the police of being responsible for the violence and claimed in a press conference that City Police Officer Anuj Chaudhary and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vandana Mishra are responsible for this and the deaths were due to police firing.
