Sales of luxury cars not increasing due to heavy tax, up to 100% tax on Lamborghini sports cars

Recently, the super car maker Lamborghini has also made the same comment on the limited market for super cars in India. The company sells luxury and super cars in the country. Lamborghini car price in India starts from ₹ 3.16 Cr. The company had sold 69 units in 2021, breaking the old record of sales, which was the company’s highest ever sales. Earlier, the company had sold 52 units in 2019.

Presently, cars in India attract GST of up to 28 per cent with an additional cess of 1 to 22 per cent depending on the type of vehicle. At the same time, the government levies 60 to 100 percent tax on cars imported from outside countries, depending on the engine size and price of the car. With such a tax, the price of luxury cars in India increases significantly.

Because of this, while other segments are growing rapidly, the annual sales of luxury cars are not growing beyond 40,000 units. There is a demand from luxury car makers that the tax structure on luxury cars should be uniform. High vehicle cost discourages customers from upgrading to the luxury segment.

Talking about Lamborghini, the super car maker recently launched the new Huracan Technica in the Indian market. The company introduced the new version of the V10 sports car in April this year. The Huracan Technica is placed between the Huracan STO and the Huracan Evo RWD. The company has launched this car at a price of Rs 4.04 crore (ex-showroom).
