Russian–Ukraine War: Netflix Suspends All Its Services in Russia

Russian-Ukraine War: The fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues and has suffered a lot. Apart from this, many tech companies have taken decisions taking a tough stand on Russia. Meanwhile, now the US-based streaming platform Netflix has announced the suspension of all its services in Russia.

It is the largest company ever to exit Russia. Netflix spokeswoman Emily Feingold has given a statement to confirm the news. “Given the circumstances prevailing on the field, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia,” an official statement said.

Let us tell you that Netflix has recently refused to comply with a new Russian law. The law states that major streamers in the country are obliged to broadcast 20 Russian propaganda channels, including NTV, which Netflix denied. Later, Netflix also announced a halt to all-Russian acquisitions and productions, including Russian Netflix Original.

Netflix was reportedly in on four Russian originals. Bloomberg reported that it has about 1 million users in Russia. In addition, Sony, Warner Bros. and Disney also announced a ban on the release of their upcoming films in Russia. These films included Batman, Turning Raid and Morbius.

Also, TikTok has also blocked any new video uploads and live streams in Russia, after introducing a new “Fake News” law in the country. Under this law, if someone publishes false information about the country’s invasion of Ukraine, then he can also be sent to jail. If found guilty, he could face up to 15 years in prison or a fine of 1.5 million rubles (about Rs 10,74,000).

These tech companies have also stopped their services

Before Netflix, many tech giants have already banned their services in Russia. Yes, many tech companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung have also announced to stop their sales and services in Russia in view of the current situation.

At the same time, social media platforms Twitter, Meta and YouTube have also made some announcements in this regard. Not only this, in support of Ukraine, EA has also removed the Russian national team and all Russian football clubs from its popular FIFA 22, FIFA mobile and FIFA online game champions. In this way, Russia is being driven from all sides by this fight and tech companies are not lagging behind in this.
