Russian hypersonic missile tested with salvo launch

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that on Friday the military fired a salvo of the latest Zircon hypersonic missiles.

According to Putin, the tests were carried out successfully. He noted that “this is a great event in the life of the country and a significant step in increasing the security of Russia, in increasing its defense capability.” The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Manturov added that the launch was made at 5:30 am.

Earlier, Zircon was successfully launched on December 16 from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate of the Northern Fleet. And in October, the military conducted the first test launch of a hypersonic missile from a submarine. Back in August, the RF Ministry of Defense announced the signing of a contract for the supply of “Zircons”. Serial deliveries of weapons are scheduled for 2022. The ships of Project 22350 should become the first standard missile carriers.
