New Delhi. Although smartphones have become an important part of our lives and the popularity of smartphones is such that many people are glued to their phones for hours, but despite this, there has been a decline in the smartphone market. A recent report by market research firm Counter Point is shocking. It has been claimed in this report that there has been a decline in smartphone sales globally in May 2022. This is only the second time in this decade that smartphone sales have fallen below 100 million units globally.
According to a Counter Point report, in May 2022, only 96 million smartphone units were sold globally. If you compare it with April 2022, then there has been a decline of 4 percent in the sale of the smartphone. At the same time, if compared to May 2021, there has been a decline of 10 percent in smartphone sales in May 2022.
Significantly, due to the Corona period, the smartphone market was badly affected. This happened for the first time in the Corona period when smartphone sales did not touch 100 million units. There was a boom in the smartphone market since the Corona period. However, after the lockdown in China for the last two months, the smartphone market once again saw a decline.
According to Counter Point Research, the smartphone market has also been affected due to the Russia-Ukraine war and recession in many countries around the world. Inventory build-up is also believed to have been witnessed due to low demand, which has led to decline in shipments and cut in orders from smartphone makers.
However, according to the Counterpoint Macro Index, the smartphone market may look better in the next six months of 2022. The reason for this is said to be the normalization of China’s economy. Apart from this, even after the release of premium products like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and iPhone 14, the smartphone market can see a boom.
