The US Embassy in Moscow said, “American citizens living in or visiting Russia should leave Russia immediately. This has been done as a precaution in view of the danger of wrongful arrest.
Such warning was given in September as well
America has already warned its citizens to leave Russia. The last such warning was in September, when President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial military mobilization.
The embassy said, “US citizens are being targeted in Russia for detention and harassment by Russian security services that have arrested US citizens on bogus charges. They are not being treated fairly and transparently. He has been convicted in secret investigations or without producing credible evidence.”
Russia accused of starting investigation arbitrarily
It also said that Russian authorities are arbitrarily imposing local laws against American citizens and religious activists, and that suspicious criminal investigations have been launched against American citizens engaged in religious activities.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) said in January that Russia had opened a criminal case against a US citizen on suspicion of espionage.
