Russia fined Google a record amount of 7.2 billion rubles

The fine was imposed due to the fact that, according to the law, Google was supposed to remove sites with information prohibited in Russia from search results, this also applies to Youtube as a component of a search engine.

Prohibited information includes materials from extremist and terrorist organizations, incitement to religious hatred, insulting the feelings of believers or calls for a split in the state, drug propaganda, dangerous teenage entertainment, and much more.

The court imposed a penalty in the form of a fine of 7.221 billion rubles on the basis of part 5 of article 13.41 of the Administrative Code, according to which a revolving fine from 1/20 to 1/10 of the proceeds for the year preceding the period of detection of the offense is imposed for repeated violation of the current legislation.

The court also considered the case on the appointment of a revolving fine on the social network Facebook, now Meta.
