Rumor: GeForce RTX 40 will be stuck on old technology

Insider kopite7kimi, known as the author of a number of leaks about NVIDIA products, has published a report on the characteristics of GeForce RTX 40 video cards. According to him, the new items will receive a number of design changes compared to their predecessors – with the exception of one of the previously expected parameters.

According to the informant, the family of graphics cards based on the Lovelace architecture will receive support for the PCI-Express interface of the fourth revision, and not the fifth, as previously expected. The reasons why NVIDIA will presumably refuse to upgrade new products, he did not say. At the same time, both Intel Alder Lake processors and the upcoming Ryzen 7000 series are compatible with the current standard.

The insider also reminded his subscribers that he has not yet published any technical characteristics of the AD 102 graphics chip. According to him, the vendor can significantly rework the GPU architecture, so you should not expect that the future NVIDIA flagship will definitely receive 18,432 CUDA cores according to the “old” counting methodology.

Perhaps the next generation of video cards will be equipped with cores with a different architecture or even completely new computing units. The date of the announcement of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 family of video cards by the manufacturer has not yet been announced.
