Rs 1 lakh fine for use of plastic items, 5 years in jail

Single Use Plastic Ban: From July 1, 19 types of products made of single use plastic have been banned in the national capital Delhi. Environment Minister of Delhi Government Gopal Rai has informed that the use of a product made from single-use plastic can attract a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or even a jail term of 5 years. This action will be taken under the Environment Protection Act. In Delhi, creditors and buyers will no longer be able to use items made of plastic. Despite the ban, there will be a provision of fine for using these products.

Fine up to Rs 1 lakh
From July 1, a fine of Rs 500 to Rs 2000 will be imposed on the common people for using the banned product. At the same time, there will be a provision of punishment under Section-15 of the Environment Protection Act-1986 on those who sell, import, warehousing and selling its products at the industrial level. Such people will be fined from Rs 20 thousand to Rs 1 lakh or can be punished with imprisonment of 5 years or both. Apart from this, there is also a provision for action like seizing the products, imposing fines for environmental damage, closing the industries related to their production.

Products made of paper, jute, glass, wood etc. can be used instead of products made of single-use plastic. Products made of stainless steel and products made of bamboo can be used.
