Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin said in his Telegram channel that the state corporation is ready to develop cooperation with China on the lunar program. “Roscosmos is ready to deepen cooperation with the Chinese National Space Administration on the exploration and development of the moon”he wrote.
The words of Dmitry Rogozin were a reaction to the words of the head of NASA, said in an interview with Bild. In particular, Bill Nelson raised concerns about China’s space program and stated that China may one day land on the moon and claim it as its territory. Obviously, Roscosmos does not share the concerns of its American colleagues and does not see any military overtones in the Chinese lunar program.
In November 2017, Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) agreed on a cooperation program for 2018-2022. It includes six sections devoted to the study of the Moon and deep space, space science and related technologies, satellites and their applications, element base and materials, interaction in the field of Earth remote sensing data. Working subgroups were formed to implement this program. In March last year, Roscosmos CEO Rogozin and China National Space Administration head Zhang Kejian signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation and implement a joint project to build the International Scientific Lunar Station.
