This disease is caused by the gonococcus bacteria. With gonorrhea, purulent inflammation of the mucous membranes occurs, most often of the genitals. This infection is usually sexually transmitted, but you can also get it by going to a shared bath or using shared towels.
Austrian doctors talked about a case when an 11-year-old girl went with her parents to Italy to Lake Specchio di Venere with thermal springs. Two days after bathing, her external genitals became inflamed, burning and itching appeared. The parents used an antifungal cream, but it did not help completely.
The girl was taken to the doctor. It turned out that she was infected with gonococcus. Doctors ruled out the sexual route of infection and concluded that the hot spring was to blame for everything. There were observed optimal conditions for the life of a gonococcus. The water temperature was close to the temperature of the human body, the water was slightly acidic and contained mineral and organic particles important for bacteria.
The girl was cured.
