Realme has already risen to third place, and will soon displace Samsung from second place in the smartphone market in India

The smartphone market in India hit a record high of 162 million units sold in 2021, up 12% from 2020.

After a difficult start to the year due to the second wave of COVID-19, India quickly recovered in the second half of the year. After recovering in the third quarter, smartphone makers shipped 44.5 million units in the fourth quarter, up 2% despite supply chain issues.

Xiaomi was the leader, shipping 9.3 million devices and maintaining its market share of 21%. Samsung came in second with 8.5 million devices, with a market share of 19%. Realme climbed to number three in India for the first time, with a 49% year-over-year sales increase to reach 7.6 million units. Fourth and fifth places were taken by Vivo and Oppo, which sold 5.6 and 4.9 million smartphones, respectively.

Realme is expected to continue gaining market share and will soon compete for leadership with Xiaomi in this market.
