RBI Governor: Indian Rupee is in better position than currency of other countries- Shaktikanta Das

RBI Governor: Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das has talked about the Indian economy being in a better shape despite serious challenges. Addressing the BOB Annual Banking Conference today, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that the Indian economy is in relatively better shape amid the grim global scenario.

Said this about the falling rupee level
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that the Indian rupee is in a better position than the currencies of other countries. Sharp fluctuations and volatility in the rupee will not be allowed. Reserve Bank of India is supplying US Dollars in the market thus ensuring adequate supply of cash (liquidity). RBI’s steps have helped in smooth trading of rupee. Apart from this, Shaktikanta Das said that instead of panicking about unsecured foreign exchange transactions, it needs to be looked at factually.

What is the RBI Governor’s stand on inflation in the country
The Governor of RBI also believes that the current framework for inflation targeting adopted in 2016 has worked very well and the inflation levels have been seen in proportion to the target of RBI.

What did Shaktikanta Das say about repo rate?
In response to a question regarding the repo rate, the RBI Governor said that the RBI always keeps the growth target in mind while taking decisions about increasing the liquidity and rates and accordingly the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee takes its steps.
