Qualcomm will improve the location accuracy of Android flagships

Qualcomm has announced a partnership with Trimble to bring GNSS technology to premium smartphones. According to the vendor, this will increase the accuracy of geolocation by five times compared to current solutions – but only owners of devices based on flagship Snapdragon processors will be able to take advantage of the innovation.

Trimble RTX

Trimble RTX GNSS location technology will be available for smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 chips in the second quarter of this year. It provides accurate, high-quality navigation with lane-level guidance. Access to the service will be provided to developers of applications and services to improve user experience in terms of navigation.

The Trimble and Qualcomm partnership will also extend to automotive OEMs and their parts suppliers. They will be able to use meter-accurate positioning to develop driver assistance systems and solutions for autonomous driving. The list of services that will be the first to provide smartphone owners with improved functionality has not yet been announced.
