Putin signed a law providing for the creation of a Russian alternative to the App Store and Google Play

Vladimir Putin today signed a law on strengthening the protection of personal data, one of the provisions of which provides for the creation of a Russian mobile application store.

According to the document, such a store will be mandatory pre-installed on technical devices – smartphones and tablets. The functioning of such a store will be carried out taking into account the basic principles approved by the Ministry of Digital Development. In particular, the ministry will determine the list of applications that must be placed in the store. Under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance, a Russian analogue of Google Play and the App Store has already been created – This is RuStore store, which was created by VK. It will be pre-installed on all new Russian smartphones and tablets.

According to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the App Store and Google Play may soon stop allowing app downloads in Russia, which is the reason for the need to create a domestic app store. True, if there are no problems with its implementation on Android, then everything is much more complicated with the iPhone and iPad.
