Pros and cons of AA and AAA lithium batteries

In fact, each of these batteries is a mini power bank. And there is a positive side to this: when the voltage is converted from 3.7 V to 1.5 V, it stabilizes. There are two drawbacks here. The first – even when the battery is not used, it discharges due to the presence of a DC-DC converter, the second – the charging connector itself and the converter reduce the capacity of the battery itself (because of this, the AAA capacity is four times less than the AA capacity).

Then the author moved on to two tests. The first of them consisted in checking the capacity given to the load by the batteries. As a result, the AAA battery lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes under a load of 150 mA. Its capacity was 275 mAh, which is 26 percent less than the manufacturer promised (370 mAh).

As for the AA batteries, here under a load of 300 mA one battery lasted 4 hours and 35 minutes. The capacity was 1375 mAh, which is still 19 percent lower than the value specified by the manufacturer (1700 mAh).

Hans-Kristian also made one important point regarding the way the batteries are charged. Due to the fact that the charge voltage falls on the working contacts of the batteries during charging, it rises there to 5 V. That is, if you do not get the batteries out of the device during charging, but put them to charge as they are, then this device can be burned.
