“Progress MS-19” is laid to rest in the “Spaceship Cemetery”

On Monday, October 24, 2022, the Progress MS-19 cargo spacecraft was successfully deorbited, entered the Earth’s atmosphere and collapsed. This was reported by the press service of Roscosmos.
Earlier, at 01:45 Moscow time “Progress MS-19” undocked from the Poisk small research module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station, having worked on it for more than eight months.
The unburned elements of its structure fell into the non-navigable area of the South Pacific Ocean – this is where the so-called “Spaceship Graveyard” is located. The Mir station found its last refuge there on March 23, 2001 – with an orbital mass of 140 tons, after passing through the atmosphere, about 25 tons reached the Pacific Ocean.
Roscosmos explained:
When entering the atmosphere, most of the spacecraft burns out, but part of the skin and other refractory parts of the body sometimes reach the Earth’s surface. Therefore, they are controlled to this area – it was chosen because of its maximum distance from land on all sides.
