During the experiment, the researchers found out how the consumption of pomegranate juice affects patients with diagnosed type 2 diabetes. To do this, before taking the drink, and then one and three hours after that, the participants’ blood sugar levels were measured. It turned out that in most of the subjects (there were 85 of them in total), after three hours, their glucose levels decreased, as did insulin resistance. The effect was most pronounced in those who initially had lower sugar levels, and the least effect of pomegranate juice on the elderly.
The authors of the scientific article conclude that the results obtained can become a kind of incentive for patients with diabetes. They may resort to pomegranate juice as an additional means of controlling their blood glucose levels.
