Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir on 13 January. He will inaugurate the Sonamarg Tunnel. The time of inauguration of this new tunnel has been kept at 11:45 am. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also address the people present. Sonmarg Tunnel Project is an important infrastructure project. This has cost more than Rs 2700 crore. After the inauguration, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself has enumerated many benefits of this tunnel, which was also appreciated by PM Modi.
For example, the Sonamarg Tunnel project is about 12 kilometers long and has been built at a cost of more than Rs 2,700 crore. It includes the main tunnel, exit tunnel and several access roads. After the inauguration of this project, it will help in maintaining all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonmarg, which is very important from security point of view.
Omar Abdullah reached Sonamarg before PM’s visit
Before PM Modi’s visit, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Sonamarg and said in an ex-post, “Visited Sonamarg today to review the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Monday. Z- With the inauguration of Mod Tunnel, Sonamarg will be open for tourists throughout the year, now the local people will not have to go out in winter and will not have to travel from Srinagar to Kargil/Leh. Time will also be reduced.” PM Modi also shared this post of his and said, “I am eagerly waiting for the Sonamarg tour.”
Tunnel built 8600 feet above sea level
The specialty of this project is that it is at an altitude of 8,650 feet above sea level and is isolated from areas prone to landslides and avalanches. Along with this, it will ensure safe and uninterrupted access to strategically important Indian territory like Ladakh. There is an effort to design Sonamarg for tourists through this tunnel, which will directly benefit the tourism industry. This will promote winter tourism and adventure sports and will also open employment opportunities for the local people.
Zojila Tunnel will be completed by 2028
The Zojila Tunnel is expected to be completed by 2028, and with it the Sonamarg Tunnel Project the distance between Srinagar Valley and Ladakh will be reduced from 49 kilometers to 43 kilometers. Along with this, the speed of vehicles on NH-1 will be increased from 30 km/hr to 70 km/hr. With this, it will be fast and easy to deliver defense supplies to the border areas.
PM Modi will also meet workers
During his visit, the Prime Minister will also meet the construction workers who have worked under difficult circumstances to make the project a success. With the inauguration of this Sonamarg Tunnel project, another important milestone will be added towards India’s infrastructure development, which will prove helpful in the economic and strategic development of the region.
