A distinguished leader of the Indian-American community said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed India’s image abroad during his last 10 years in office and has emerged as a true global leader.
Philadelphia-based Indian-American cardiologist Dr. Bindukumar Kansupada said in an interview to PTI on Wednesday, ‘PM Modi ji is changing the image of Indians not only in India but in the world. He is now considered a global leader… I believe Modi is reviving Indian pride, Indian culture, the ancient Indian knowledge of Yoga and Ayurveda.
Dr. Kansupada had attended the annual conference ‘Desis Decide’ of the democratic think tank ‘Indian American Impact’ and US Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the Indian-Americans present at the event on Wednesday.
Dr. Bindukumar is also a member of the Board of Directors of Wheels Global Foundation. He said, ‘In my view, PM Modi ji has first taken remarkable steps in the field of education. When I studied in medical college, there were only four medical colleges in Mumbai. Now there are more than 700 medical colleges in India. There is a medical college in every district. As far as I remember, in 1970 there were only five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India and now there are about 23 IITs.
Kansupada told that he has visited India several times in recent times. The Indian American doctor said, ‘There has been a lot of progress. There is tremendous self-confidence among the Indian youth. Pilgrimage sites have also developed in the country. There are more airports now than I have ever seen in India. The happiness index is also improving. People have become more self-reliant and I think people are proud to be Indian.
Dr. Kansupada said he would not be surprised if the younger generation of Indian-Americans may occasionally visit India for business development and community affairs as the country is now a center of excellence. In response to a question, Dr. Kansupada said that Modi has made the people of India feel proud. He said, ‘I am hearing from them (people of India) that most of the middle class people love India and Modi. This also includes my friends living in Mumbai.
The Indian-American cardiologist said that I believe that if more people vote in the remaining three phases of the Lok Sabha elections in India, then Modi will win. He said, ‘He is a leader of all communities – Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, tribal people. I think he represents all aspects of India and I am confident that he will unite India.
