The scientists learned that between 1982 and 2020, plant photosynthesis increased by 12 percent. At the same time, over the same years, the global concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increased by almost 17 percent. Scientists believe that the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes plants to photosynthesize more actively.
Most of the carbon processed by the plants is later released back into the atmosphere through respiration. As a result, plants take up about a third of carbon dioxide emissions, which helps fight global warming.
