At the MWC 2024 exhibition, where the global announcement of Xiaomi 14 Ultra took place, journalists got acquainted with the device live. We retell the first press reviews about the capabilities of the device.
Design and display
As the GSMArena reviewer notes, the new product cannot be called compact. The case weighs 230 grams and is 9.2 mm thick. The smartphone is available in three discreet colors: black, white and blue. The back panel is made of glass or artificial leather. The latter feels premium and now resists wear better, according to the manufacturer. However, the special version of Xiaomi 14 Ultra with a titanium frame remains exclusive to China. The noticeably protruding camera block now does not have the backing that was in the previous model.
The display has been slightly updated: a 6.73-inch AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 3200×1440, support for LTPO (1-120 Hz) and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. The panel is protected by Shield Glass, which has become more transparent and better resists falls. The screen is slightly rounded on all four sides, which allows it to smoothly “flow” into the aluminum frames. There are no problems with sharp edges or visibility of content around the edges, says the Stuff editor.
Cameras and performance
Xiaomi 14 Ultra is equipped with four 50 MP photo sensors with different optics. There is a main module (one-inch Sony LYT-900, aperture varies from f/1.63 to f/4.0), a telephoto lens (75 mm, f/1.8, 3.2x optical zoom), a second telephoto lens (120 mm, f/2.5 , zoom 5x) and ultra-wide (f/1.8). Examples of pictures recently appeared on the Internet.
Performance was also taken care of: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor should be effectively cooled due to the enlarged vapor chamber. In international markets, there is only one configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It costs 1499 euros. The phone comes with HyperOS firmware. Visually, the shell is almost identical to MIUI, but offers its own ecosystem features. 4 years of major updates and 5 years of security patches are announced.
In general, the smartphone has received many significant upgrades, putting it on par with other flagships both in terms of hardware and price. Particularly noteworthy are the improved cameras, with which the model can easily compete with leading market players. We will soon learn the results of detailed testing from full reviews.
