Aleksey Volodin, Managing Director of Citroen, Peugeot and Opel brands in Russia, said in an interview with Drom.ru that Stellantis is preparing a budget model for the Russian market, the production of which is planned to be launched at the PSMA Rus plant in Kaluga.
Alexey Volodin said that the correct price for the basic version of this mass model in today’s realities would be 1 million rubles, but in the future it may change, primarily due to the unpredictable exchange rate of the Russian currency.
According to the source, the “people’s car” will be sold under the Citroen and Opel brands, and the start of production is scheduled for 2024. The Russian representative office of Stellantis confirmed that the draft of a new mass model for Russia with local assembly is indeed being prepared, but the company cannot confirm the release date and details.
Alexei Volodin said that the novelty will be “a cross between a high-capacity hatchback and a crossover.” Presumably, we can talk about the Russian version of the subcompact cross-hatchback Citroen C3, announced in September last year for India and Latin America. The cars will be similar in appearance, but the technical parts will be different.
This year the automobile will be released in Russia restyled crossover C5 Aircross, as well as a new generation C4 cross-hatchback. Stellantis also intends to resume sales of the Opel Astra hatchback.
