The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) claims that Russia is using the International Space Station for political purposes, in particular to support actions in Ukraine. A corresponding statement by the US space department was published on Thursday by a number of American media.
According to management officials, “NASA strongly condemns Russia’s use of the International Space Station for political purposes, for support” special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The US space agency believes that this is “fundamentally contradicts the main purpose of the station, which is to promote science and develop technology for peaceful purposes with the participation of 15 countries..
The statement does not specify why it was issued. The specified media attribute this to the fact that in July Russian cosmonauts unfurled the flags of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) on the ISS.
Dmitry Rogozin has already commented on this NASA statement: “What can I say in this regard. Our American partners must either take off the cross or put on shorts. It was they who politicized our cooperation, imposed illegal sanctions against our enterprises and a number of leaders (former and current) of our industry, grossly violated the principle of “space is out of politics”, depriving us of access to the international microelectronics market and commercial orders, trying to strangle Russian space – the cradle of world cosmonautics. And do not shush at us and threaten with a finger! We will do everything in the Russian segment that we consider necessary and useful. And I advise my Western partners to cancel their stupid sanctions if they want to normalize professional relations.”.
