A Chinese tipster has claimed that OnePlus is working on a foldable flip phone equipped with high-end camera features typically found in flagship smartphones. The tipster also suggests that Oppo, OnePlus’ sister company, is developing smartphones with telephoto and macro cameras. While Oppo has already launched a clamshell-style foldable phone featuring these camera capabilities, OnePlus may follow suit to compete with upcoming devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola’s Razr foldable handset.
The tipster, known as ‘Smart Pikachu’ on Weibo, mentioned that both Oppo and OnePlus have yet to announce specific plans regarding new clamshell-style foldable phones. OnePlus has previously released only one foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, which was essentially a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N3 Flip. If Oppo introduces a successor like the Find N5 Flip, OnePlus may also release a similar foldable phone with comparable specifications to compete in the market against Motorola and Samsung’s offerings.
The Oppo Find N3 Flip, launched in India in October last year, runs on Android 13-based ColorOS 13 out-of-the-box. It features a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip, 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 256GB UFS 4.0 inbuilt storage. The device boasts a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED inner screen and a 3.26-inch AMOLED cover display.
Notably, the Find N3 Flip stands out as the first and currently the only clamshell-style foldable phone equipped with a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera. Additionally, it packs a 4,300mAh battery with 44W SuperVOOC charging support.
