OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R have been launched. I have been using both these smartphones for some time now. Let’s know about OnePlus 13.
The blue color variant of OnePlus 13 looks fantastic. The design and build quality is top notch and the silver camera module with blue makes it more special. Overall it looks like a premium looking smartphone due to the aluminum frame. The phone is slim and does not weigh much. The combination of blue and white looks even better.
The vegan leather finish feels very premium and is better than the vegan leather on any Motorola phone, which looks cheap. OnePlus The tag of Green Line has been attached to it for a long time.
People complain that green lines start appearing in some OnePlus smartphones. The company has also resolved this and has said that if this issue occurs in anyone’s OnePlus phone then they will get lifetime warranty.
OnePlus 13 is a big upgrade in every aspect compared to OnePlus 12, but the camera is more or less the same as that found in OnePlus 12. For the first time, the company is providing 6,000mAh battery in its flagship phone. Interestingly, despite the big battery, it is thinner and lighter than the OnePlus 12. The reason is that this time a silver carbon composite anode has been provided in the battery, due to which despite having more power, it is slim.
Another interesting thing – logos of two companies are visible in this phone. With OnePlus, now the company has also engraved the Hasselblad logo, earlier it was given in the camera module.
OnePlus flagships were not able to do anything special in terms of design for the last few years, but looking at this phone it seems that this time people will like its design a lot.
This time the company has also provided a cover with a magnetic ring through which MagSafe accessories can be connected. The company has also launched a wireless charger in which a fan is provided. However, you cannot attach MagSafe accessories to a cover without a magnetic ring. The wireless charger also has an inbuilt fan so that the phone will not overheat while charging while gaming.
OnePlus 13 has IP68/IP69 certification, which means it is completely water and dust proof. Dip it in water or shower it with water jet, it will have no effect.
OnePlus 13 has a 6.82 inch AMOLED LTPO screen and Dolby Vision is also supported here. With a peak brightness of 4500 nits, this phone is viewable even in outdoor direct sunlight. Its screen also comes in the top notch category due to the 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+ and Crystal Shield Super Ceramic Glass provided for protection.
Unlike the previous flagships of OnePlus, you will not get a curved display here, but you will notice a slight curve on all sides, because this is a quad curved display. When used, it gives the feel of a mostly flat smartphone which makes the experience even better.
OnePlus 13 has a triple rear camera. 50 megapixel wide angle, 50 megapixel periscope telephoto and 50 megapixel ultra wide lens have been used. There is 3X optical zoom — I believe 5x optical zoom should have been provided.
Its camera gives solid results even in indoor and outdoor environments where there is very little light. Because its camera can now capture more light. Night shots are also fantastic and interestingly, portrait mode works great in group photos even in such setups. The grains are also very less visible.
If the camera of a phone clicks good photos even in low light, then understand that your money has not been wasted. Color tuning of photos is at professional level thanks to Hasselblad color calibration. Many special features have been provided for the video.
The ultra-wide camera is also impressive, but the telephoto lens seemed a bit lackluster to me. It should have been better. Talking about videos, you can record 4K videos at 60fps, while 8K videos at 30fps.
A 32 megapixel front camera has been provided for selfie which is good. The selfie camera of this phone is better than the back cameras of many other expensive smartphones.
OnePlus 13 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset which is of 3nm architecture. Has Adreno 830GPU. Phone is not responding in performance. It has Android 15 based Oxygen OS 15 which is quite popular in India.
Oxygen OS has a separate fanbase, but its popularity has definitely decreased compared to before. There have been many changes, but the soul has been given to OxygenOS. AI based features have been provided for customization which are interesting. The phone is very smooth and because of the fast animation it feels very fast.
Like the Dynamic Island of iPhone, this time OnePlus has also given Live Alert feature. This will basically create like a capsule on the top where you will get quick information.
There has been a lot of focus on AI features. There are AI features for photo editing, but currently they do not work properly. Not as accurate as it should be. It is possible that the company will fix it after the update, but I was disappointed every time I used AI Editor. There are important features like AI Eraser, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Eraser, AI Detail Boost, but they do not work well.
It would be better if these were fixed with updates. Because Apple had promised AI at the time of launch, but after several months, AI features have been given in iPhones.
The under display fingerprint scanner is quite fast, because this time the company has used ultrasonic. This phone has a 6,000mAh battery and it has 100W wired charging support. There is 50W wireless charging support. 10W reverse wireless charging, while 5W reverse wired charging is supported.
OnePlus 13: Bottom Line
OnePlus has launched its flagship in the beginning of the year. This phone will face tough competition from Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series. OnePlus 13 has all the features that a flagship phone should have. But the real truth of any phone becomes known only after at least a month. Can wait for long term review.
