Okinawa has been selling electric scooters in India in the year 2015 and has sold 1.5 lakh scooters till date. The company has sold two-thirds of the electric scooters in the last 12 months. Presently the company is manufacturing the scooters at its Bhiwadi plant in Rajasthan. The plant can manufacture 90,000 electric scooters each year. Due to the huge demand for scooters, the capacity of this plant has been increased.
Okinawa will soon open its second factory with a capacity to produce 200,000 scooters per year. The company’s sales were significantly reduced during the financial year 2020-2021 due to the Corona epidemic. In the last financial year, the company was able to sell only scooters worth Rs 120 crore.
Last week, the company launched its high-speed electric scooter Ockhi-90. This scooter has been made available in India at a price of Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom). This scooter comes with a 72V 50Ah Lithium Ion battery which takes 2-3 hours to charge. It can give a range of 200 km on a full charge, while its top speed is 90 km / h.
The scooter comes with built in navigation, digital speedometer, Bluetooth, USB charging, 40-litre boot space and many more. The electric scooter gets a large front cowl, LED headlight, LED DRLs, chrome rear view mirrors, LED turn indicator and digital instrument cluster.
Large 16-inch alloy wheels have been given in this scooter. Due to the large alloy wheels, the scooter looks very attractive and gives the look of a bike. Okinawa expects to sell 50,000 units of the Okini-90 this year.
In India, Okinawa electric scooters compete with some of the biggest manufacturers in the two-wheeler electric scooter segment like Ather, Hero Electric, Ola Electric. The company has sold 5,923 units, registering a five-fold increase in sales as of February 2022. In February last year, the company was able to sell only 1,067 units of electric scooters.
