Officially: Russia withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty, ceasing to fulfill its obligations under it

It is reported that the withdrawal of the Russian side took place on December 18 – just today Russia suspended the fulfillment of its obligations under this agreement. At the same time, the relevant notification was sent to the depositories of the treaty – Hungary and Canada – as well as other participating countries.

According to the head of the Russian delegation at the Vienna talks on military security and arms control Konstantin Gavrilov, today there are no grounds for Russia’s return to the Treaty.

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the country’s withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty on June 7, 2021.
